About This Project

Designed and programmed a dual-arm robotic system to automate the craft of crochet, using an ABB YuMi collaborative robot and Cognex vision tools for real-time yarn and hook tracking. The system coordinates both arms to manipulate a crochet hook and yarn tension simultaneously — replicating the bimanual dexterity that makes crochet one of the hardest textile crafts to automate. Programmed in RAPID (ABB's robot language) with vision-guided positioning for adaptive stitch placement. This project won the School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics Award at the Oxford Brookes Tech Show 2025.
